Robots Love Ice Cream Board Game Review

Robots Love Ice Cream

Description/ Game Play

Robots love ice cream and are terrorizing the galaxy, traveling from planet to planet stealing the delicious dairy dessert. It's up to you and your trusty ice cream truck to stop the treat thieves, taking them out one at time with your weaponized ice cream. If you can prevent the geared 'bots from achieving their tasty heists, you'll earn enough Sprinkletonium and Ice Cream to become champion of the galaxy!

Think it sounds easy? These robots fight back! For every round of attacks against the mechanical menaces, there is a counter attack which will take away your upgrades, steal your Sprinkletonium, and deplete your weaponized ice cream supply.

Robots Love Ice Cream

Robots Love Ice Cream packs a punch of cooperatively competitive cuteness, while achieving a retro video game feel in the style of Space Invaders. Nostalgia managed to find it's way to my gamer heart, while the delightful dairy desserts drew my darling daughter aboard.

Serious gamers aren't likely to bring Robots Love Ice Cream to the table often, but families with 8-10 year-olds would get a kick out of this game. This is competitive-cooperative game, where players work together to defeat the robots, but only the player with the most points wins the game. In our house, this is a popular style of game, as our kids feel like we are working together as a team and don't tend to get upset if another player happens to end with more points. (Not that we shield our kids from losing. Far from it!)

  • Cuteness factor achieved with adorably evil robot cards and ice cream cutouts
  • Easy to read instruction booklet with lots and lots of pictures
  • Solo game was as satisfying to play as the multiplayer version
  • Love the app? You'll love the card game!

  • While each successive round added more robots to defeat, it somehow lacked a sense of urgency of increased threat

Gateway Game Score 7/10
Overall Score 7/10
