Crazy Commute Board Game Review
Description/ Game Play
Crazy Commute is a fast-paced 3-5 player card game where players compete for the first place spot in a chaotic race to the finish. They use a combination of attacks and opportune timing to pass a player or two and hold on to their newfound position with dear life.
Players take turns dueling with other drivers, using cards that chain combinations together in a way that is surprisingly similar to old-school fighting video games like Street Fighter II or Killer Instinct. That's not where the video game analogies stop, though, as the game has a decidedly Super Mario Kart competitive vibe coupled with a Crazy Taxi aesthetic and drive for chaos.
Crazy Commute is the card-game equivalent of a drag race and demolition derby held simultaneously in the same parking lot. Attacks will fly, chumps will be passed and angry road-rage fueled drivers will be left in the dust, shaking their fists and plotting revenge.
The game is fast, fun, light and over before you know it. It's the sort of appetizer game that begs for a second session, crowding out the longer game you had planned for the main course. If you always wondered what Super Mario Kart would play like as a card game, look no further.
- Speedy, easy to learn and light
- Hyper competitive, but with a chance for even the worst driver to catch up with the right moves
- Unique theme, appealing art and well-balanced gameplay
- Players who memorize the attack combination chains may be able to build up an advantage over more casual players, which keeps this from the very top of the gateway game pile.
