Sparkle*Kitty Board Game Review

Description/Game Play

Sparkle*Kitty is great gateway game. Players begin by choosing their favorite princess... even you dads! Players are dealt nine cards. Each player chooses four of their cards to build a princess tower (using the card backs). The other five cards remain in their hand. The cards have silly and obnoxious words them like BOO-BOO, FAIRY, and GIGGLE. The goal of the game is to escape the tower by removing tower cards are releasing your beautiful princess.

On your turn, you have three choices: 1) play one card into the spell book 2) play a dark magic card next to your princess 3) pass on your turn and draw a card. The spell book consists of two face-up cards. When you play a card onto the spell book it must match either color or symbol on the previous card. You must say the spell you create, such as "Glitter Vortex". If you forget, Sparkle Kitty becomes angry and adds a card to your princess tower. Dark Magic Cards are played next to your princess tower. From now until the end of the game, you much say the word on the dark magic card before saying the words in the spell book. If you forget and another player calls you out, you must add another card to your tower.

There are a few special cards, RAINBOW, INFINITE and FUDGE that are played as spell cards but have a special ability that goes with. They are also rainbow colored so any color card can be laid on top. There are three ways to remove tower cards from your tower. The first is to empty your hand. If this happens, first take one card off the bottom of your tower and then draw back up to five cards. The second way is to double play a spell card. If a card in the spell book matches a card in your hand, you shout double and the word on the spell card, "DOUBLE VORTEX". You get to draw the bottom card of your town and put it into your hand. The last way is to play a SPARKLE or KITTY card on a matching colored card. This allows you to take the bottom card from your tower and add it to your hand. The game ends when a player removes all of their tower cards or the entire draw deck runs out.

Sparkle*Kitty is sure to bring big laughs at family board game night! Who doesn't want to hear dad, aka Princess Frosting, shout out the words SNUGGLE MONSTER! The kids in our group, along with the adults, are begging to replay this game again and again. We may have played a few more times than required to get a good feel for the game. This game is fast and easy to learn and creates a lot of laughter.
